Vic: Minister considering banning cockfighting equipment

The RSPCA is calling for tougher nationwide bloodsport laws following the deaths of
two men at an illegal Melbourne cockfight on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for Victorian agriculture minister KEITH HAMILTON says a recommendation
to ban bloodsport equipment in Victoria in line with the New South Wales code is being
considered.

The spokeswoman says Mr HAMILTON will consider an RSPCA recommendation to ban such
implements as cockfighting spurs.

In NSW people caught in possession of equipment used in bloodsports, such as cockfighting
spurs, have to answer to a magistrate.
